Cold-mix asphalt

The advantages of cold-mix asphalt are mainly environmental: energy savings (no heating of the binder or the aggregates) and less pollution (dusting during the manufacture of the mixture).

In 2000 and 2001 this technology of French origin was tested for the first time in Belgium, on four pilot sites selected by the Walloon Region. Additionally, a reference section in hot-mix asphalt was constructed on each site.

The results from the preliminary mix design studies in the laboratory and from the monitoring of all the test sections are presented in research report CR40/03.
